As a live-in landlord, we are always trying to make more money with our house. The new age of IoT-connected devices, it provides some specific types of buildings in select locations that have a unique opportunity to take advantage of. Renting your roof to satellite companies or more specifically telecommunication companies who are desiring to expand their wireless internet network across the United States. Longwave Connect is one of a small handful of innovative companies that are trying to break through a relatively new industry. However, Longwave Connect is the only ones currently doing it on a large scale.
Longwave Connect is looking to place our small antenna equipment on the roofs/balconies/terraces of both private and commercial properties in return for an attractive monthly rent.
Can Your Roof Be Rented Out?
There are some restrictions that allow or disallow your roof from being able to be used by these companies for a satellite placement to get extra rent money every month.
Location is very important for these satellites. If you live in or near major metro cities that is an ideal location.
Height plays another factor in being approved for satellite placement. Your building needs to be one of the higher buildings in the area. This is important so that there are no obstructed lines of sight. Sometimes it is helpful to be on a hill in these scenarios since you have a higher likelihood of being above most houses in the area.
Types of roofs are probably the most needed variable in getting approved or not before considering all other checkboxes. The roofs need to be flat. Some roofs that could be used are rubber roofs, tar roofs, spray foam roofs, thermoplastic roofs, and some other variation roofs too. Most residential houses are asphalt and shingles that are to a point like an “A”, which would not work. The satellite needs to be flat and upright for stability purposes.
Electrical access of course is an obvious factor that might be an upfront cost to make the mutually beneficial relationship with the landlord and the telecommunication companies. After all, they need to plugin the outlets somewhere and it is either that or a loud backup generator.
Easy roof access is not needed, however, it makes lives a whole lot better for the telecommunication company and the landlord to check up on the equipment and make sure everything is running smoothly. If you are in a three or four-unit already then most likely you have a fire escape ladder already for meeting the fire code so all you need to do is extend the ladder to reach a little to the roof.
